Private tuition with Gareth over Zoom. 45 minutes of focused, personal teaching shaped entirely around what you need. All levels welcome.
Gareth Tucker is a Norwich-based harmonica player, teacher, and session musician whose work is rooted in old-time music, Appalachian repertoire, and pre-war blues. His playing is shaped by groove, tone, and feel first — drawing on the raw power of traditional music rather than empty showmanship.
Alongside his solo work and teaching, Gareth performs with Dave Thomas and has shared bills with and supported artists including Rick Estrin, Son of Dave, Chastity Brown, Dana Gillespie, and Joe Filisko. He has also contributed to the Hootmatic Blues compilation alongside Joe Filisko, Phil Wiggins, Aki Kumar, and Paul Oscher.
A serious student of the tradition as much as a performer, Gareth's musical world runs from DeFord Bailey-inspired material and old fiddle tunes to country blues, string band music, and stripped-back roots playing. The Harp Shed brings all of that together: teaching, session work, live performance, and a deep commitment to music with character, history, and soul.
The three tunes that hook everyone. Pick one up, play along, and see if The Shed is for you.

Three notes, one bend, and you'll sound like you've been playing for years. The riff that starts every blues player's journey.
Choose your trail and follow the road from first notes to playing your own way. Each stage unlocks tunes, techniques, and deeper understanding.
Gareth is a serious student of the tradition. His commitment to the roots of this instrument and his ability to teach it with clarity and feel make him one to watch. Keep doing what you're doing.
There's a real depth to Gareth's playing and teaching. He understands the feel and the history behind the music, and that comes through in everything he does. A genuine voice for the tradition.
Gareth's approach to harmonica is rooted and authentic. His ear for old-time and pre-war styles is exceptional, and the way he breaks things down makes it accessible to anyone willing to listen and learn.
The HarpShed fills a gap nobody else was filling. Real teaching, real tradition, none of the fluff. If you want to learn this instrument properly, this is where you go.
What sets Gareth apart is the authenticity. He's not just teaching licks — he's teaching the music, the context, and the feeling behind it. That's rare, and it makes all the difference.
